Australia. They must be migrant workers in there. It is not easy to get job in
Australia. Migrant workers in Australia are differences between migrant workers
skill and unskilled. It will be a competition with Australian if they want to
get a fine job. So, they have to do everything and do a job even though that
job is ‘dirty’. They goal is how can they get money and live in Australia with
comfortable than in their country.

Introduction
Everybody
in the world needs money. They realize to get money; they have to get a job.
With condition of economic in the world today, it is very hard to get a fine
job. Many of the people move to new place. For this situation, they move and
find job in abroad. They have to leave their native land, their country and
seek a new life. They hope in new place they can get best life for their
family. One of the most countries which are direction of immigrant to get new
life is Australia. They must be migrant workers in there.
It is not easy
to get job in Australia. With new environment, new language, and new culture,
sometimes it can be an obstacle for them. The cost to life in Australia is so
high. If they do not have skills and not graduated from reputable college, it
can be so hard for them to seek the job. It is such a competition between
migrant workers with Australian to find it.
For me, it is
important for us to know how can their reach their dreams. In the article which
I read, many migrant workers in Australia do ‘dirty’ jobs. Don’t think about
something ‘bad’. They want to clean toilet, pick the fruits, or drive a taxi.
It is different with Australian. They seldom take kind of these jobs. They
won’t take such ‘dirty’ job. It means that migrant workers want to do
anything to get money. They do not care about the kind of job. They only care
about how can they get money and live in Australia better than in their
country.
1.1
Background of the problem
The cost to live
in Australia is so high. Many products which are made in Australia are
expensive because the Australia government tries to make their country free
from import products. They think it is good for the country because it is not
only to make their society proud of their own products, but also it makes their
economic do not get bad influence with import from other countries.
Although the
cost to live in Australia is expensive, it still makes many people from the
other country come and try to live in there. Many immigrants have to leave
their country and hope that in there they can get something better than their
country.
The economic
reason is main reason why they choose Australia be dream country for them.
Although they have to come in Australia with many ways like be immigrant
illegal. They hope the Australia government accepts them and Australia can give
best than in their country. So many immigrants in Australia be migrant workers
and get a job in many fields.
Migrant workers
in Australia are differences between migrant workers skill and unskilled. As I
said in above, although they have graduated from reputable in their country, it
does not mean that they will get a fine job in Australia. In there, it is so
hard to get a fine job. It will be a competition with Australian if they want
to get a fine job. So, they have to do everything and do a job even though that
job is ‘dirty’. They goal is how can they get money and live in Australia with
comfortable than in their country.
1.2
Aim of the problem
The main reason
of migrant workers to do a ‘dirty’ job is because it is a chance for them to
take a job which Australian does not take it. They do not interest with kind of
job like that. So, the owner of some shops or service center which I read on
article said that it is so hard to find an Australian to do a ‘dirty’ job, such
as clean the toilet, wash the car, and pick the fruit, etc. The owner usually
is happy to accept migrant workers because they want to do anything and do it
with happy. It means that many jobs can do by migrant workers. They should not
worry to think about job.
We have to
realize that many migrant workers get a trouble not only to find a job, but
also when they want to come and live in Australia, they have so many
difficulties. They have to prepare visa and anything else to support their plan
to get a better life in their dream country. It is not easy. So, we can see and
understand their difficulties from the beginning.
II.
Methods and theoretical frameworks
Institution
in Sociology based on Robert Mac Iver and Charles H. Page is procedures which
have been created to regulate human relationships between members in one group
of society and the others[i].
The other meaning of institution said that institution is any structure or mechanism of social
order governing the behavior of a set
of individuals within a given
community. Institutions are identified with a social
purpose, transcending individuals and intentions by
mediating the rules that govern living behavior[ii].
There are five institutions on social institutions:
1. Family
institution
2. Religious
institution
3. Education
institution
4. Economic
institution
5. The
last, politic institution
In
this journal, I will use politic institution. Political institution as part of
the social institution, it is namely the system of norms which serve to
regulate the power relations of social order so that citizens remain preserved
in the society[iii].
There are some functions in politic institutions:
a. The existence of a political association is called
for active government.
b. The existence of a community of people who live
together on the basis of mutually agreed values.
c. Government carries out the functions for the
common (general).
d. The government was given the authority to
monopolize the use or threat of physical force.
e. The Government has authority only in certain
areas[iv].
III.
Analysis
Based
on method and theoretical frameworks, I want to analyze my journal, ‘migrant
workers in Australia between like and dislike’. I will analyze by using politic
institution. Political institution as part of the social institution, it is
namely the system of norms which serve to regulate the power relations of
social order so that citizens remain preserved in the society.
The
experts said in Australia that high-paying mining jobs are luring young
Australian workers from traditional fields such as retail and hospitality,
while others will rather go on the dole than muck in and do certain jobs
themselves. They believe jobs in the service industry are too menial or too low
paid and they have been brought up to believe they are destined for something
better instead of starting from the bottom and working their way up as
generations did before them. So, many migrant workers take a job in hospitality
and do it. The owner feels happy because they do not worry to accept migrant
workers.
1. The
government was given the authority to monopolize the use or threat of physical
force.
Migration has enriched Australia. Racist anti-immigration
politicians try to encourage fears about migration that have no foundation.
Migration strengthens the economy and creates jobs. But when there is
unemployment it is easy to point the finger at the newest arrivals and blame
them. Australians should oppose anti-immigrant sentiment and fight for equal
rights for anyone who works in Australia.
Similarly the government should demand the rights of
permanent residence for all workers in Australia. It used to be that migrants
in Australia got the benefits of permamnent residence on arrival – including
welfare benefits and access to education. In 2000 the stand down period of two
years was imposed on migrant workers to access benefits. Then in 2001 only
those who met the Australian requirements for Permanent Residence who has
skills can access welfare and education rights. They are in a much worse
situation than other legal migrants.
2. The
Government has authority only in certain areas
Australia
implement a new stringent visa regime for hiring of foreign workers besides
increasing the visa fees. As for the existing 457 visa scheme, the employers
will have to declare that they cannot find an Australian for a particular job
before hiring any foreign worker. Companies will also have to advertize for
four months in a newspaper for a position before sponsoring a foreigner. The
department of immigration and citizenship said the employers will also have to
give details on how many workers they will sponsor and whether a new nominee
meets the English language requirement.
IV.
Conclusion
From
the explanation above, Migrant workers can be satisfied because they get good salary.
The companies have been able to reduce the average real wage because they have
been able to use skilled migrant labour. These workers are employed as managers
on salaried contracts and rarely get paid for working in excess of 40 hours a
week when the job actually requires them to be on site 50-60 hours a week. One
of the terrible aspects of the migration regime is that migrant workers are
tied to a particular company for the visa. They can’t change companies for a
better position.
Actually,
it seems like the condition life in Indonesia. Many people from the other
provinces in Indonesia come to Jakarta and think that Jakarta can give them
best life. In the fact, only workers who have skill can find a right job. In
the end, if they cannot find a job, they only be a jobless and Jakarta is so
crowd with the population.
